Opened my Lacie, it tries to spin up but fails after 5 sec with the sound of disconnected power supply.

It was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 Gbytes.

I have the 500gb one with a Seagate IDE drive in it. The hard drive works but it takes FOREVER to boot up. Is the power switch broken? I can't seem to find a disk utility package that will run diagnostics on an external USB drive.

HEy guys,
My Lacie porsche design crashed severly : I can hear the heads going back and forth without reading anything and going back in its "off"mode... then doing this over and over. Might be a magnetig problem. The weurdest thing is that it broke down while working, so it cannot be because of an electric choc or smthing like that. Anyway, thanks to these explanations I took off the disc from its lacie porsche enclosure : It's a Samsung spinpoint 500Go model HD501LJ. Samsung is shit. The Hard Drive is SATA type (cool), gonne replace it by a 1Go... but I still lost all my datas. Fucking failing material.

Just one thing : Samsung are shit, ok; maxtor are breaking down all the time, seagates Freezes... what kind of hard drives are really cool to use ? thx for the help.

Does anyone have instructions on how to open a LaCie Poulson design? The black brick refuses to open. I tried searching for hours and I cannot find anything on the net. I specially need pics. The little blue light has already gone inside the enclosure by mistake.

Thanks in advance!

hi,

I tried to replace my lacie's 160gb disk with 300gb, but it doesn't get detected. It spins up, but activity led is just on, and no other effect.

seems like a controller issue

I had a hard time to open the enclosure. Thanks for the tip guys. BTW, mine is a 500GB LaCie Porsche and the hard drive is SATA type. Not all the Porsche disks are IDE.

And also, the drive did'nt crash, I just needed an IDE-disk :P
Henke: You won't be able to install a SATA disk in the LaCie external drive if your current disk is an ATA/IDE. All the Porche disks are IDE I think.. :-)
